Description
A rare Jean Patou couture embroidered wool 'peasant' dress, circa 1930, large pink on ivory woven label 'Paris 7, Jean Patou, 7 Rue Saint-Florentin', with Russian-influenced pink, blue, green and yellow bands to the neck, shoulders and ties which slot through the front waist, bust 102cm, 40in Provenance: Olga Popoff a Russian-born sculptress (1883-1959). She was born in St Petersburg and studied sculpture there and in Paris at the time of the Russian revolution. She emigrated again to Long Island New York in the 1920s.
Condition
later added green silk modesty panel to front opening. Small freckle stains to side of right front bodice opening. Beige lining at neck edge has shattered. Hem has been raised - but could easily be re-lowered. The odd pinhead sized moth hole on the skirt, small marks on the skirt - needs cleaning. Faint perspiration stains at underarms. Three moth holes to rear neck area - 2 pinhead and one approx 3mm diam.
