“Pnei Aryeh.” Responsa dealing with the four sections of the “Shulchan Aruch” by Rabbi Aryeh Leib Breslau, Head of the Beit Din of Amadein and Rotterdam. Amsterdam 1790. With a dedication by the author to Rabbi Raphael HaCohen of Hamburg.At the top of the title page is a handwritten dedication by the author and his signature (in the first line the top of the letters are cut off a bit).The addressee is the renowned Rabbi Raphael HaCohen, Head of the Beit Din of Altoona, Hamburg and Andsbeke, author of “V’Shav HaCohen,” the rabbi of Rabbi Chayim of Vilozhin.The author was one of the great rabbis of his time. In this book he corresponds about halacha with other great rabbis: Rabbi David Tabli of Lissa, Rabbi Meir Pozner author of “Beit Meir,” Rabbi Pinchas Halevi Horowitz author of “Sefer HaPliya” and Rabbi Yeshaya Pick-Berlin. From 1781 he served as the rabbi of Rotterdam until his death in 1806. In #41 of the book is a reply relating to money sent from Philadelphia in the United States!Loose cardboard binding. A hole and tear on the title page and the following page. Age stains. Medium-fine condition.
