This piece is an original Watercolor on paper, titled, “Passing of Time". Along the top of the piece, in pencil is inscribed, “SS Young ’05, June 2005, As a Child my father would tell me that You can hear time in a seashell. Time passes, as Dad has, the Clock ticks on and on, “Passing of Time””. It is also pen signed, “SS Young 05” along the top right side. This extraordinary piece measures 22.25” x 31.5” and has such amazing detail and coloring, with a multilayered effect that gives it such depth and character, that few artists are able to perfect as well as Young. The detail on the face is extraordinary and expresses the concentration of the man as he passes his time reading. The reverse of this piece is inscribed, “Passing of Time, Mr. John Burns, C. SS Young”. This is a fine study of Scott's mastery of the art of watercolor, for which many critics liken him to Winslow Homer and Andrew Wyeth, in his style. Scott is also famous for being able to perfectly capture the skin tone, and texture, of the Black African American skin tones, that few artists are able to.
