The lower right hand corner is signed “Island Princess”. The detail on her face is lovely, as well as the added depth to her hair. This extraordinary piece measures 17.25” x 14.75” and has such amazing detail and coloring, with a multilayered effect that gives it such depth and character, that few artists are able to perfect as well as Young. The reverse of this piece is inscribed, “Island Princess, C. SS young 2003”. This is a fine study of Scott's mastery of the art of watercolor, for which many critics liken him to Winslow Homer and Andrew Wyeth, in his style. Scott is also famous for being able to perfectly capture the skin tone, and texture, of the Black African American skin tones, that few artists are able to.
