This piece is an original Watercolor on paper, titled, “Chickens Crossing, Coconut Row". In the upper right hand corner, it is pen signed, “SS Young”, and pencil inscribed “SSY” in the center of the piece. It is pencil inscribed “July 3 ’00?, Coconut Row Eleuthera Bahamas” in the lower left corner, and pen signed “SS Young ‘00” in the lower right corner. There are also small pencil written notes in several areas of the piece. This extraordinary piece measures 14.5” x 11.5” and has such amazing detail and coloring, with a multilayered effect that gives it such depth and character, that few artists are able to perfect as well as Young. The reverse of this piece is inscribed, “Chickens Crossing, Coconut Row, Eleuthera Bahams, ’00, C. SS Young”. This is a fine study of Scott's mastery of the art of watercolor, for which many critics liken him to Winslow Homer and Andrew Wyeth, in his style.
