T.V. Tommy Vision's art is highly sought after and collected by outsider art collectors. His pieces can be seen on ARTNET.COM at prices of $2000.00. His work is shown in galleries in New York. He is listed in The Outsider Art Source Book. And He has been featured in the Outsider Art magazine RAW VISION. He is a very well listed, well know self taught outsider artist.
This piece is all handmade from natural objects that the artist finds. The glass and tiles are all hand carved and along with the sea shells, and rocks are all hand placed to create the image. It takes a month or more to finish a work of art.
T.V.-Tommy Vision was born Thomas Charles Larson in 1952 in Newark, New Jersey. T.V. settled in San Francisco in the early seventies where he became a fixture in the local music scene as the doorman for well known rock clubs like the I-Beam, The Oasis, DNA Lounge as well as The Fillmore, and as a roadie for Chris Isaak, SVT, and countless local bands. He worked there from 1978-1994 and achieved legendary status highlighted by 2 incidents.
In 1980 T.V. intervened while witnessing a brutal assault in Dolores Park in San Francisco.. He saved the victim's life but suffered severe stab wounds that landed him in the hospital.For his heroism he received the San Francisco Medal of Valor from Mayor Diane Feinstein. In 1986 he was shot in the head while on the job. Prominent local bands staged several benefit concerts to help pay T.V.'s medical bills. T.V.'s artmaking odyssey began when he was shown how to cut stained glass in the early seventies. After retiring from the music scene in 1994 he moved to New York City where he found a job manning the penny machines at the observation deck of the Empire State Building. He worked there until 1998. His focus then shifted to his artmaking and he began using materials such as seashells and stones that he saved from his travels.
