Description
PRESENTATION COBURG BADGE STAINED GLASS WINDOW Fine original stained glass window, 11 1/2" x 15", an image of the famous Coburg Badge given to veterans of that early Nazi clash which bears the legend: "MIT HITLER 1922 1932". Beneath is a painted inscription: "PRESENTED BY THE PRINCIPAL MAYOR OF THE CITY OF COBURG 15.X.1940". A very carefully constructed piece, believed to be from the estate of FRITZ WACHTLER (1891-1945), Gauleiter of Bayreuth and an SS-Gruppenfuhrer, executed for desertion. Fine condition. On Oct. 14, 1922 Hitler and 800 Brownshirts descended on Coburg to march in a "German Day" parade. Ignoring orders not to unfurl their banners or otherwise incite the population, the storm troopers marched on and clashed repeatedly with many in the Marxist-aligned town. What was initially a bluff by the nearly bankrupt Nazi party turned out to be a propaganda bonanza.
