簋侈口，束頸，垂腹，圈足外撇。肩、腹及足滿飾雷紋錦地，肩腹兩側飾鳳首耳，下帶垂珥，鳳頭頂花翎，橄欖眼，尖喙，珥似象鼻上卷，構思獨特。肩腹周身鳳鳥對稱排列，每一鳳鳥紋之間以突起獸首裝飾，並以下延至腹底的一條豎棱紋分隔。肩飾長體鳳鳥紋，腹部飾尖喙垂冠鳳鳥紋，回首卷尾，呈 S 形，冠上長羽錯落有致的飄垂於胸前，瑰麗多姿。足飾變體鳥紋，方向相反，一上一下，線條比例流暢。

古代青銅食器種類繁多，簋乃盛放已熟的黍、稷、稻、粱等飯食的器具，亦是重要禮器，在商周時代為貴族身分高低的象徵。據《禮記》記載，簋是以偶數組合與奇數的列鼎配合使用，天子用九鼎八簋、諸侯七鼎六簋、大夫五鼎四簋、元士三鼎二簋。而如本品裝飾繁複之特徵，盛行時間大致在商晚期至西周早期之間，列證如上海博物館庋藏商代晚期〈執簋〉及香港大學美術博物館庋藏西周早期〈青銅獸面紋簋〉，可從微小的紋飾變化中，發現西周早期承襲商代晚期的設計概念及鑄造技術。

周朝把鳳奉為聖鳥。《國語、周語上》：「周之興也，鸑鷟鳴於岐山。」鳳鳥作為貴重禮器裝飾題材自此開始興盛。「垂冠鳳鳥紋」是西周中期青銅器最為流行的紋飾，在河南安陽殷墟、陝西關中地區與四川成都平原，是三個重要青銅器出土地，所出土之類似器物紋飾有所差異，代表三地青銅文化之間的交流。細觀所出之「簋」器，亦見紋飾從獸耳轉化鳳首耳及垂珥的發展端倪，但彼此之間是獨立紋飾。列證可見本件西周〈青銅垂冠鳳鳥紋簋〉，對照上海博物館庋藏西周中期〈祖庚孫簋〉及 1975 年法門鎮莊白村出土，於 1996 年被評為國家一級文物，陝西省寶雞市扶風縣博物館庋藏西周中期〈垂冠鳳鳥紋簋〉，雙耳成為昂首豎冠的立體鳳鳥，兩足如垂珥。三者間鳳鳥及周身紋飾組合，仍有沿襲商代晚期，或轉化西周早期之特徵，體現當時的審美和文化潮流。本品型制敦厚古樸，鏽色自然，紋飾雕刻精細簡練且流暢，注重整體效果，為件氣勢非凡之佳品。
