Description
A boullework workbox, 19th century, French, of sarcophagus form, the hinged lid enclosing a velvet-lined interior with a mirror and removable tray fitted with lidded compartments and mother-of-pearl sewing accoutrements, the exterior decorated with inlaid cut brass on a scarlet tortoiseshell ground, raised on gilt ball feet, 30cm wide 22cm deep 17cm high Provenance: The Collection of the late Rosemary and Theo Cutting. This lot was on long-term loan to the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, until 2023.
