Description
Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes culture, ca. 900 to 1300 CE. A hand-carved stone grinding platform called a metate bearing rough edges and an incredibly smooth, slightly convex grinding surface. Included is a rectangular grinding instrument called a mano, with one rough side for grasping and 1 smooth side for grinding. Size (metate): 20.5" L x 12.5" W x 2.25" H (52.1 cm x 31.8 cm x 5.7 cm); (mano): 6.75" L x 3.25" W x 1.2" H (17.1 cm x 8.3 cm x 3 cm)

Condition
Metate and mano are likely not original to one another but are both from the stated time period. Old losses around peripheries of metate, and small chips to mano, otherwise intact and very good. Great surface smoothness.
