Description
Each of two-piece construction, light wood, simply painted, the undersides with pyroengraved NW brand and signed and dated in pen "N.E.West 2005"; 29" and 23 1/2”. Nathantiel ‘Dan’ West fell in love with nature as a child on Martha’s Vineyard, and was drawn to natural marine settings in his various careers and homes-from the US Navy, to teaching at the South Kent School, to boat building in Martha’s Vineyard. In the 80’s and 90’s, West and his wife spent summers in Nova Scotia, where he was began sculpting in the various materials he collected along the beaches. In 2000, West moved to Friendship, Maine, where he worked from a barn studio. “The best form to my eyes is found in the natural world. As much as possible, I work with driftwood and other found materials to keep close to nature.”
