Postcard history. Advertising and propaganda post cards 1927-1934
Since 1927, after the liquidation of the Svyaz agency, which we talked about in the last publication of the series, the publication of advertising postcards was continued by the People's Commissariat of Posts and Telegraphs of the USSR (NKPT USSR), transformed in 1932 into the People's Commissariat of Communications of the USSR (NKS USSR).
The last issue of 1927 was designed in the style of issues of previous years. The design has changed since 1928. On single-sided cards, illustrations with advertising texts began to occupy the left side, and on the right side were printed service fields, the heading “Postcard” in different languages, a stamp and imprint. In 1929, the production of such cards became widespread.
Many issues were intended only for use in the Union republics and also contained text in their national language. In 1930, cards for international shipping appeared. They carried tourist advertisements and advertisements for exported goods in English. Interesting fact. As a result of the constant increase in tariffs for sending domestic correspondence, from June 1, 1932, tariffs for sending domestic and international items became equal. After another increase in domestic tariffs on February 25, 1933, payments for international postal cards became lower than for domestic ones. An increase in the cost of international shipping occurred only on May 1, 1936, and the ratio of tariffs again became familiar. In 1933–1934, the issue of advertising and propaganda cards became less regular. For the entire 1933, only one new card entered postal circulation, in 1934 - thirteen. Due to a decline in popularity, the publication of cards for placing advertising and promotional materials was discontinued in 1934. Over seven years, 308 stories were released. Their publication resumed in 1941 in a new format.
