Description
Two Early Outer Banks Kildeer Decoys
Salvo, North Carolina, circa 1930, carved and painted wood.
Height 17 in.
The two very stylish silhouette killdeer decoys came from the stretch of the Outer Banks from Avon to Buxton. The neatly shaped profile of these large flattie decoys with their mid-length bill sets them apart from others. Salvo was a hotbed for shorebird hunters since they were close to Gull Shoal Island where numerous species of shorebirds came during their migration flights both south and north.
Former collection of Vince O'Neal.
From the Personal Collection of Mr. Kroghie Andresen, Charlotte, North Carolina
