Early Published Avon Peep

Avon, North Carolina, circa 1900, carved and painted wood, iron bill, published on page 140 of Shorebird Decoys of North Carolina by Kroghie Andresen and Philip Harvey and page 370 of Gunnin' Birds by Kroghie Andresen.
Length 8 in.
This small sandpiper was found in the marsh near the village of Avon by Loran O'Neal in the 1920s. The form and paint application are typical of the 1900s shorebird decoys carved on the Outer Banks.
Formerly in the collection of Loran O'Neal of Avon North Carolina.
