Manson Meekins (NC, 1916-2018), Published Root Head Willet

Avon, North Carolina, circa 1930, carved and painted wood, published on page 139 of Shorebird Decoys of North Carolina by Kroghie Andresen and Philip Harvey.
Length 12 in.
The famous rig of root head willet were stored in the rafters of a boat house in 1935 at the time Meekins joined the US Coast Guard. They were not taken down until 1980. At the age of ninety-seven, Manson Meekins received the prestigious The Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award signed by the governor of North Carolina.
Former collection of Phillip Pittman, Charlotte, North Carolina and purchased from Neal Conoley in 1988.
