Spot, North Carolina, circa 1900, carved and painted wood.
Length 17 in.
Sawyer was a lifelong market hunter who was known for his exceptional skills with guns, boats, and decoy making. His decoys have a unique sculptural form which have been mistaken by the work of Alvirah Wright.
