Ned Burgess (NC, 1868-1958), Widgeon

Churches Island, North Carolina, circa 1930, carved and painted wood.
Length 16 in.
Burgess made a large number of widgeon and pintails in the 1930s when these species came to Currituck Sound in large numbers. This example has an attractive winded head posture.
