Item Details
Description
Paris: A Collection of Three Paintings of Paris Scenes by Henri Miloch (1898-1979) the Eiffel Tower painting is signed front lower right and also inscribed to the back, the Versailles painting is unsigned but inscribed to the back in Miloch's hand. The tree study is unsigned and uninscribed. - watercolour and gouache paintings on artist's paper, unframed Two sheets are each: 9.75 x 12.5 inches, the tree study measures 11.5 x 9.5 inches This is a really lovely collection of three scenes by the highly regarded painter, Henri Miloch. One is a strong depiction of the Eiffel Tower from Pont d'lena (the bridge links the Tower on the Left Bank to the Trocadero district on the Right Bank) , another is a view of Versailles and the gardens, the third is a tree scene (possibly an apple or cherry blossom, also possibly painted at Versaille). These would frame and display very nicely. These works form part of a collection we currently hold by Miloch. They are undated but the body of Parisian work we have by this artist was dated in most cases, with this style, from the later post-war part of the 1940's....mainly around 1948. Henri Miloch was born in Trieste (Italy) in 1898 but studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a member of the Society of French Artists. His life and work was very much centred in Brittany, in north west France, much of his work portrays Breton maritime life in the various ports, and local town observations, especially in the Concarneau area where he worked and exhibited for much of his artistic career. From 1959 he also had a workshop in Tours (Val de Loire). condition report: No tears. All have rough and slightly marked edges. The tree study has some marking to approximately the top 0.5 inch of the sheet and all the edges of this one are slightly unevenly cut. Colour is good, strong, and clear, the tree study is more muted in colour.
