Description
Dorothy Wilding (1893-1976) STUDIO PORTRAIT, 1920s. Vintage silver gelatin print, on Wilding's combination tissue and card mount, image/sheet size 200 x 150mm, card size 348 x 254mm, signed by the photographer in pencil on tissue lower left margin, with Wilding's Camera Portraits Old Bond Street studio stamp card verso. Framed, frame size 440 x 340mm. The subject of this vintage print may be one of the "three graces" photographed by Wilding in her 1923 image Frieze, taken to promote The Midnight Follies, a new cabaret at the London Metropole. Though the subject of the present print wears a headscarf, the top edge of her strapless outfit closely resembles the delicate dresses worn by the three women in Frieze, each of whom also had a waved bob hairstyle.
