Description
This lot contains a Battle of Verdun medal. This medal was made in late 1916 and some were even produced before the battle ended. This medal was awarded to soldiers who held their ground during the WW1 Battle of Verdun. These soldiers withstood attack for several months even under intense pressure from infantry and heavy artillery pounding. Multiple designs for the medal were proposed but the French government approved none so the medal was an unofficial award that could not be worn on uniforms. It is approx 3" x 1 1/2" and weighs about 0.01lbs. Overall the medal is in good used condition with some light ware from use over time. Please reference all of the photographs as they are a part of the description.
