A Steam Engine Indicator by Elliott Bros, London, 19th Century,
In a fitted wooden case, with six external springs.

In 1794 James Watt invented the indicator to monitor cylinder pressure. His draftsman John Southern adapted it to produce pressure versus time diagrams for calculating engine power and diagnosing valve problems.

Case dimensions: H: 6 x W: 9 x D: 9 1/2 in.

From the Estate of John A. Davidson, Jr. Proceeds to benefit the APL of Lorain County and the Dittrick Museum.
