Britain.- Double Fore-edge Painting.- Watts (William) The Seats of the Nobility and Gentry in England and Scotland, being a Collection of the Most Interesting and Picturesque Views, half-title, ?lacking engraved title but with all 84 engraved plates by William Watts after Sandby, Nates, Dalby &c., occasional spotting to plates, some light offsetting, handsome contemporary dark blue straight-grain morocco with decorative roll-border in gilt and blind, spine gilt in compartments, g.e with double fore-edge painting beneath the gilt, a little rubbed at edges, [cf. Millard, Britain 89, earlier edition], 4to, Howlett & Brimmer, [water-marked 1820 & 1822].*** The fore-edge paintings depict: I. Glamis Castle in Scotland (the ancestral home of the late Queen Mother) II. Windsor Castle & Eton with the River Thames in the foreground.
