Yousuf Karsh (1908-2002) CC, RCA, FRPS, was born in Armenia and was a genocide survivor (under the Ottoman Empire, circa WWI) who immigrated to Canada. Karsh, who opened his studio in Ottawa in 1932, was (still is) world renown for his portraits of notable individuals. He has been described as one of the greatest portrait photographers of the 20th century.
