Description
A vellum deed from early 19th century Pennsylvania. By this deed Leopold and Henriette Notnagle or Nottnagle sold to John Mingen, all of Bristol, Pennsylvania, "all that tavern, house & ferry known by the name of 'Brodnex's ferry" in Bristol for the sum of 640 pounds. Historical notes in the Doylestown Democrat of July 24, 1895 suggest that this may have been what was also known as Bloomsdale Ferry, for the notes specify its sale by Notnagle to Mingen in that year, and at the time of the Revolution, as Minnick's Ferry, which was the site of crossings on December 25 and 26, 1776 as a diversion to draw attention from Washington's crossing and attack at Trenton.
