An Art Deco ruby, diamond, platinum, and yellow gold watch, comprising thirty-four square cut rubies, fifty-five round brilliant cut diamonds, set in platinum, with an 18 karat yellow gold watch case, with a 9 karat yellow gold strap.
This stunning watch is an exquisite example of late Art Deco glamour. Made in the 1940s, this piece is an example of retro jewellery, in the ?tank? or ?odeonesque? style. Tank jewellery gets its name as it was inspired by the tanks of WW2, and they feature lines of gemstones, reminiscent of tank tracks. The face of the watch has an ivory background, with Arabic numerals in black, atop shining rose gold. The hands are blued, and the watch glass is in great condition, with minimal wear. The watch case is flanked by rows of sparkling brilliant cut diamonds, set in platinum. Rows of square cut rubies arc at the top and bottom of the watch case, channel set in yellow gold. From the top of the watch, a scroll of yellow gold is adorned with diamonds, with a final row of rubies attaching to the strap. At the bottom of the watch, rubies and diamonds are set into strong geometric shapes, hinged to allow easy wear and perfect fit to the wrist. The diamonds are bright, white, sparkly, and well-matched with one another, as are the rubies. The watch strap is crafted from yellow gold mesh, which is fastened with a safety catch. The watch is in great condition. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The watch is in working order. The watch winds easily, ticks, and runs, however, not being a horologist, I cannot vouch for its time keeping.
