Description
Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Sulawesi Island, Toraja peoples 20th c. Bone armor vest comprised carefully with woven fiber and rattan strands under bone scales. Coconut or other natural material buttons affixed to front of best, while three small black roundels to the face, and three larger hide rondels to the front and back. Size 29" H x 19" W (On Included custom Hanger in iron with textured finish)
The Toraja people are known for their intricate bone armor, known as "waruga," by utilizing the bones of deceased family members. The bones were cleaned, carved, and then used to construct armor pieces that were worn by warriors during battles or displayed as symbols of prestige and honor.
