Rene Lalique (French, 1860-1945). "Soleils" art glass vase, ca. 1936. Signed (acid etched) "R. LALIQUE FRANCE" on underside. A molded frosted glass vase with a clear rim and relief concentric flower petals or sunbursts, radiating outward along the outer sides. Rene Lalique studied at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs de Paris and worked as a designer for jewelers in the 19th century prior to establishing his own atelier. In 1900, Lalique exhibited at the Exposition Universelle in Paris thus establishing himself as a master jeweler. He went on to concentrate on glassmaking, creating striking bowls as well as perfume bottles and other vessels, embellishing his forms with intricate reliefs.
