Item Details

Description

Native American, Southwestern United States, Apache people, ca late 19th to early 20th century CE. A large and well-preserved example of a woven water watertight basket known as a "tus," coated with a thick layer of pine pitch to seal the gaps between the woven strands. The larger vessels encased in sap were sometimes used for cooking or food preparation. Size: 14" Diameter x 15" H (35.6 cm x 38.1 cm)
