HAYES, RUTHERFORD B. (1822-1893). Unclipped and unissued ship's pass document signed ("RB Hayes") as President. N.p., n.d.
One page, 11 1/4 x 17 7/8 in., creased at folds, wear to edges, adhesive/paper residue to verso. Unclipped. Embossed white seal affixed to lower left. Countersigned by Secretary of State William M. Evarts (1818-1901).

This unissued ship's passport was likely signed in advance of being sent out to an American port where it could be filled out and issued accordingly by a Collector of Customs. Similar ship's passes typically date to the 1850s or earlier. Rutherford B. Hayes served as the 19th President of the United States from 1877-1881, making this an exceptionally late example.
