2 silver gelatin photographs, each approx. 8 x 10 in. (light edge/corner wear, some spotting). Each with caption in negative and ink stamps on verso.

Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) activists James Chaney, Michael Schwerner, and Andrew Goodman were killed by Klan members near Philadelphia, Mississippi, on 21 June 1964. Although murder was immediately suspected, the men's bodies were not found until 44 days later.

Scenes/captions include: "Move to New Area. A group of sailors helping in the search for three missing civil rights workers pile into a pickup truck here today for movement to another area. About 100 sailors and officers...have spent two days searching for the civil rights workers who disappeared Sunday night," 26 June 1964. -- "Three memorial marchers sit on the steps at the burned ruins of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church after completing a 12-mile-long march to commemorate the deaths a year ago of three civil rights workers. Some 70 persons marched from downtown Philadelphia to the rural church, the burning of which was being investigated by the three when they were slain," 22 June 1965.
