NOTE: This painting originally appeared on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 29? New Capitol Dedication Nitijela stamp issued August 11, 1993. August 11, 1993, marked the opening and dedication of the Marshall Islands Capitol Building Complex in the city of Majuro. One of the main structures there is the Nitijela, where the Marshallese parliament meets. This handsome building also holds the offices of the speaker, vice-speaker, legislative counsel and clerk of the Nitijela. A glass enclosure hangs overhead in the parliament chamber. From this vantage point, security forces have a clear view of all proceedings, and interpreters prepare translations of foreign dialogues. In addition, the Nitijela hosts local government affairs and may serve as a focal point for regional and international level gatherings. Some of the themes important to the Marshall Islands are promotion of fishing and tourism in the Pacific and environmental issues such as sea level and climate monitoring.

BIOGRAPHY:
He grew up in his father's commercial art studio in downtown Los Angeles, where he was taught to draw and paint almost before he could walk. After attending Otis Art Institute, and while still in high school at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, and San Jose State University, Ren began his career in advertising as an agency art director. He worked with the top artists, designers, and film directors in Los Angeles and New York for almost 30 years, creating and directing many memorable and award winning advertising campaigns. Wicks was an all-around artist, in a career that included NASA and postage stamps, but he excelled at two subjects in particular: wings and women. During WW2, he worked for Lockheed, contributing artwork for fighters and bombers that was used both in ad campaigns and in pilot handbooks. During the same period, Howard Hughes tapped him to do poster work for RKO, most memorably for Jane Russell in The Outlaw. Magazine illustration for Esquire, Redbook, Saturday Evening Post, Coronet. Ad work for Kotex, Edwards Coffee, and swimwear companies. Did several calendars and portfolios for Casinos in the 1960s (Harrah's, Harolds Club).
