Item Details
Description
Robert Gribbroek (March 16, 1906 â€â€œ October 13, 1971) was an accomplished layout artist and background painter known for his work at Warner Bros. Cartoons from 1945 to 1964. He first received credit for his work in Chuck Jones' "Lost and Foundling" (1944). Initially, he collaborated mainly with Chuck Jones until 1950 when he left the studio, and Maurice Noble took over his role. After a three-year hiatus, Gribbroek returned in 1953 and initially resumed his position as Chuck Jones' layout artist. However, in 1954, he shifted to Robert McKimson's unit, where he worked until the studio's closure in 1963.Following the closure of Warner Bros.' cartoon unit, he joined Chuck Jones at the MGM cartoon department and retired in 1965. His last credited work was as a layout artist for the 1966 Spanish animated feature "El mago de los sueños." He received later credits for his contributions to classic Warner cartoons in compilation specials and features.Although Robert Gribbroek may not have gained widespread recognition during his career, his work is now admired by many fans of classic animation. He was born near Rochester, New York, and studied art in Taos, New Mexico, where he eventually passed away in 1971 at the age of 65.
