Clearly the funniest adversary to Bugs Bunny is Tasmanian Devil- a voracious, disheveled, whirlwind of teeth, claws, bloodshot eyes and growls, who made his debut in Robert McKimson?s production Devil
May Hare in 1954. Amazingly, Taz appeared in only five Looney Tunes shorts before Warner Bros. Animation Studio closed down in 1964, as Taz remains one of the most popular cartoon characters in animation history. Taz is generally portrayed as a dim-witted teenager-type with a notoriously short temper and little patience. He will eat anything and everything, with an appetite that seems to know no bounds. He is best known for his speech consisting mostly of grunts, growls and rasps, and his ability to spin and bite through just about anything is unlike that of any other cartoon character.
Robert McKimson
While the name Robert McKimson is not well-known outside animation circles, his work is familiar to us all. Robert McKimson's animation career began in 1928 at The Walt Disney Studios, which then employed only about 30 people. He found the legendary Mickey Mouse on the drawing board before him on his very first assignment as an assistant animator. In 1931, he left for Warner Bros. Studio, where he stayed on until 1963 as an animator and cartoon Director. Robert McKimson became a Director during the mid-40s with his first picture, ?Daffy Doodles,? being released in 1946. In all, he animated and directed 175 cartoons for Warner Bros., while creating and introducing five major cartoon characters: Foghorn Leghorn, Hippety Hopper, Sylvester Jr, the original Speedy Gonzales, and, of course, the Tasmanian Devil.
