Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A pottery flute that still emits sound, with a mouth hole and vent on one end, and 4 key holes on the opposite end. The protruding spikes may symbolize the sacred ceiba tree or the "world tree," whose roots were believed to descend into the underworld. Size: 11.25" L x 1" W (28.6 cm x 2.5 cm)
