Czapek & Cie, Important And Rare Gold And Enamel Quarter-Repeating Pocket Watch For Prince Alexey Fyodorovich Orlov, No. 6586, circa 1860 Case: 49 mm, 18k gold, four body, signed and numbered gold cuvette, reeded rim with gold slide to activate the repeat, first quality polychrome enameled coat-of-arms on the front, enameled royal crown and overlay initials on the case back Dial: enamel, Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, outer minute track with five minute numerals, moon hands Movement: frosted gilt 18 lignes bridge movement, 21 jewels, wolf's tooth winding, counterpoised straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, repeating on gongs Signed: Czapek et Cie on the dial and cuvette, 106.3 grams gross weight This highly important timepiece was most certainly made by special order. The magnificent enameled House of Orlov coat-of-arms and the overlay high relief enameled monogram, possibly for Alexey Fyodorovich Orlov, are testaments to the importance and rarity of this early Czapek & Cie repeater. Condition: Overall excellent condition. The dial is very good and without chips or hairlines. The case is very good overall. Light surface nicks and small scratches to the coat-of-arms on the back cover. The case lift spring for the front cover is missing. The movement is running and chiming very well.
