MIGNON
bronze, dark brown patina, the base inscribed ‘MIGNON’ and signed 'E. AIZELIN 1880', with ‘F. BARBEDIENNE Fondeur Paris' signature, stamped with the ‘REDUCTION MECHANIQUE COLLAS BREVETE’ and numbered ‘924’, 80cm high; on a fitted ebonised plinth

Note: Aizelin began his studies under Dumont at the Ecole des Beaux Art in 1844 and debuted at the Salon in 1852. He exhibited there regularly until 1897 and also at the Exposition Universelle in 1900. Barbedienne edited a number of his models including the present example, in the following sizes: 34cm, 40cm, 54cm, 67cm, 80cm, of which this is the largest size.Related Literature: Les Bronzes du XIXie Siecle, P.
