Charles Frodsham. A rare 18ct yellow gold half hunter half quarter repeating pocket watch, C1880s. with its original box.
Dial: The fine enamel Roman dial signed and numbered CHAs Frodsham AD Fmsz with subsidiary seconds dial and original blued steel spade hands.
Case: The heavy 18ct yellow gold half hunter case hallmarked for 1882 with case maker stamp HMF ( Harrison Mill Frodsham ) and anti theft swivel bow. The front of the case with blue Roman Numeral enamel chapter ring. The back of the case has an engraved monogram with engine turning. The repeater slide on the side of the case.
Movement: The beautiful three quarter plate keyless lever fully jewelled movement and signed Chas Frodsham 84 Strand London. From the extracts the movement was supplied by Audemars for a princely sum of 54/-, which was a vast amount of money in those days. This watch repeats the hours, quarters and half quarters on two hammers striking gongs.
This watch is very rare and important as Half quarters repeaters were not made that often. This watch has also got its original tooled leather box which is also very unusual to have and it has an Extract of Archives showing that the watch entered stock in 1883.
