S. Smith and Son. A Rare Heavy 18ct Yellow Gold Keyless Lever Fusee Up & Down Free Sprung Open Face Pocket Watch C1919.
Dial: The beautiful cream coloured Willis dial signed S. Smith & Son Ltd Trafalgar Square London with bold Roman numerals outer minute track with a sub dial for the power reserve at nine o'clock and the subsidiary seconds dial at three o'clock. The original blued steel hour and minute spade hands with the power reserve hand and the seconds hand matching.
Case: The heavy 18ct yellow gold case with plain back and plain inner cover hallmarked for London 1919 with anti theft swivel pendant. The case maker F.T for Frederick Thoms who worked from Spencer Street Clerkenwell London.
Movement: The superb three quarter plate English keyless fusee lever movement with bi-metalic compensation balance blued steel hairspring, being free-sprung the movement regulates itself. The movement is fully signed stating that S.Smith were suppliers to the Admiralty and to the Indian Government.
This pocket watch is a superb example of the craftsmanship of Samuel Smith in making such a fine timepiece using the pre-eminent watch case maker F. Thoms at the time and also the dial maker Willis. This watch would make a great addition to ones collection.
