A LOT OF 4 EARLY CHASED IRON AND STEEL KEYS, CA. 15TH-18TH CENTURIES
Item Details
Description

A lot of four antique keys of varying origin and style, dating variously from the late medieval era, through the renaissance, and into the early-modern period. Two of the keys have hollow barrels, one with a particularly interesting cross shape barrel. The key with the more usual circular barrel has a nicely cut openwork fleur-de-lis shape within the bow. The largest of the keys is probably the most recent and has a beautiful, symmetrically wrought beard. The final and most unusual key is of a long, slender, cylindrical shape with multi-lobed finials and similar blades at either end. The surface of the key has been incised with crosshatch decoration on almost every portion of its surface, including on the ends of the blades.
