Description
This second printing poster was for a run of very early and special shows the Grateful Dead played at the legendary Matrix in late 1966. The bizarre drawings were originally designed by Heinrich Kley, a late 19th Century German editorial illustrator and painter.
Artist Richard A. Lyon created the lettering and overall design of the poster while incorporating the Kley drawings into the work. Lyon also produced a Moby Grape poster for The Matrix the same year, as well as a Big Brother one, both with similar lettering and a different set of drawings he utilized by Heinrich Kley into the compositions.
