Description
This is a full-color Original Program for the 1968 Miami Pop Festival held at Gulfstream Park a horse racing track in Hallandale Florida just north of Miami. The Grateful Dead performed at the 3-day festival in late December along with many other popular acts of the day including Chuck Berry, Canned Heat, Marvin Gay, The Amboy Dukes, Joni Mitchell, Steppenwolf, and many more. The lineup was absolutely stellar.
Approximately 100,000 people were in attendance. It was the FIRST major rock festival on America's east coast. It was produced by Tom Rounds and Mel Lawrence who had previously produced both the seminal KFRC Fantasy Fair and Magic Mountain Music Festival in California.
The Grateful Dead played on the 29th and their set included a cosmic mix of Aoxomoxoa & Live-Dead material. Joni Mitchell invited former Hollies member and new love interest Graham Nash as well as the great Richie Havens to join her onstage to sing Dino Valenti's "Get Together". This treasure exhibits color comic book style artwork on the cover and inside as well as articles inside about many of the scheduled performers.
This program was produced prior to the concerts and distributed at the festival. Several acts appear in the program listed to appear but did not perform for various reasons including The Rolling Stones John Mayall's Bluesbreakers Dino Valenti and H.P. Lovecraft. Vintage festival programs from the 60’s like this one are harder to find with each passing year. This is the FIRST EXAMPLE we’ve ever offered in our auction of this difficult to find issue!
