Description
Dated 1835 A.D. Type III stamp. A fantasy issued in the early 20th century in allusion to the proclaimed Riograndense Republic, a breakaway state that declared its independence from Brazil in September of 1836. This short-lived state was pejoratively nicknamed by its opponents (the Brazilian Imperialists) as the Piratini Republic after the small Piratini village, so as to downplay the size of the revolution.
