Cross Of Mentana (Crois de Mentana) 1867.
The Medal was created by Pope Pius IX on November 14th 1867 to commemorate the Battle of Mentana which took place on November 3rd 1867. The battle of Mentana combined a force of 3,000 Pontifical troops and a corps of 2,000 French who defeated an attempt by Garibaldi to take Rome. The obverse of the medal states "Loyal & Meritorious" while the reverse states "Hence Victory".
