Welcome to Vintage Watch Corner. First a PSA (Public Service Announcement) Vintage Watch Corner was selected as the Vintage watch source to supply ?period? watches (1918-1926) for a major motion picture. This picture is being filmed in Oklahoma as we speak. It is a validation of the authenticity of my restorations.
What a great looking Elgin. This watch is from the late 1930?s, It is Elgin?s answer to the ?waterproof? watch. The crystal has a gasket between the case and crystal, the case back has a gasket between the movement retainer ring and the case back, that by the way threads on.
I love the oversized crown; it adds a distinguished look to a ?functional watch. This watch was targeted for the outdoors person who wanted a watch that could withstand the elements, hence multiple gaskets and oversized crown.
I love the two tone dial. It has a golden minute outer track border, combination stick Arabica indices, finished out with a golden center. It is a much smaller watch than today?s modern watches, so please be aware of the that.
This is what I have completed with this restoration:
1)New old crystal
2)All new gaskets
3)Movement was serviced
4)The dial and hands were refinished to their original status
5)The case was gently polished to bring out the high polished luster that stainless steel to show
6)I have attached a 16MM black genuine pigskin band, with brushed stainless steel keepers and buckle ( period correct)
I have worked hard this one. It is a beautiful watch that has the late 1930 early 1940s all over it. To the light yellow dial
The case size is 28MM in diameter. For your reference a quarter is approximately 25.5MM in diameter. Keep this in mind.
This is a marvelous treasure for some. This would make a great ladies watch
