Let me introduce you to the Hamilton Square B Engraved! It is a mouthful! This 14 karat white gold filled Art Deco beauty was made for approximately 2 years, a very short run. Who is the Hamilton Watch Company, read below! Think Art Deco, think Roaring 20's, think the birth of a wrist watch, thats is where this watch is placed in historical context
Hamilton Watch Company, What a story! Hamilton was founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and began producing pocket watches. From the very beginning, the focus was on quality and accuracy, and these principles had made Hamilton a coveted vintage American Watch to collect.
In the early days of American railroads, there was no common method of timing and accidents were frequent. The precision of Hamilton pocket watches helped solve this problem and Hamilton timepieces soon received the title: The Watch of Railroad Accuracy.
Like many early wristwatch manufacturers Hamilton entered the wristwatch ?Derby? because of WW1. As an official supplier to the U.S. Armed Forces during WWI, Hamilton equipped hundreds of soldiers with the reliable timepieces so important during war. This prompted a shift in production from pocket watches to the more convenient wristwatch. World War I, also known as the First World War or the Great War, was a global war originating in Europe that lasted from 28 July 1914 to 11 November 1918.
During the 1920?s and 1930?s which represent the early birth of wrist watches Hamilton was one of the leading manufactures in quality, design innovation. Hamilton?s well-known Piping Rock watch made its debut in 1928 and specially engraved versions were presented to the New York Yankees in celebration of their World Series win that year. Members of the team included Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, some of baseballs most famous players.
This model is commonly called the ?Square B? , they made two versions, one with a plain bezel and one with an engraved bezel. The both style were prone to premature wear on the bezel corners, this is called ?wear through or brassing? . This survivor has none; this is one of my signatures in watch restorations. I look for ?good bones? to restore. I pass up a lot of watches to get a case this good. This case is superb! This style Hamilton only made for two years. You could almost call it a limited production model.
I elected to have the dial and hands refinished to its original status, it looks beautiful. The watch has a had a total tear down service, new crystal.
The white gold-filled case has been gently polished by hand to bring out the luster of the 14-karat white gold fill. Considering that this watch is approximately 90 years old, well, that is remarkable. Use the pictures for additional condition descriptions. This case is pristine.
The case measures 28.7MM across from 9 o?clock to 3 o?clock
The case measures lug to lug approximately 34.5MM
I have added a black 16MM Genuine Alligator band that was in the USA, not overseas in China, Thailand or Vietnam. The band is finished off with a bright high polished stainless-steel tang buckle.
