Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala or Chontal culture, ca. 800 to 300 BCE. A hand-carved anthropomorphic head of minimalist form carved from speckled greenstone. Rounded ears protrude from the sides while a bulbous nose extends from the front, and a biconically drilled suspension hole is centered above the forehead. Size: 1.6" W x 2.2" H (4.1 cm x 5.6 cm); 2.4" H (6.1 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966

Condition
Small repair to one side of head with polishing around break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks, with softening to facial features, otherwise in great condition. Nice preservation to overall form, and great stone color throughout. Remains of modern blue mounting putty along base.
