Item Details
Description
The Farquharson Actioned Rifle is a single-shot hammerless falling-block actioned rifle, the action designed and patented by John Farquharson (1833-1893),of Daldhu, Scotland in 1872. George Gibbs, a gun maker in Bristol, became a co-owner of the Farquharson patent in 1875 and was the sole maker of Farquharson rifles until the patent expired. A few years after the original Farquharson patent expired in 1889, many English gun makers began producing their own versions of Farquharson rifles. The example seen here is believed to have been made at the turn of the century by an "outworker", a gunmaker that made custom rifles for notable British companies and for themselves. Obviously original in its construction and fine finish, this rifle is believed to be in its as built configuration with beautiful hand engraving of the action and lovely hand checkering on the original walnut stock including diamond inlays of ebony wood beautifully inlaid to the wrist of the stock. The only flaw in evidence is a small crack in the toe of the stock, lovingly repaired with no loss of the stocks wood or beautiful finish. This fine Farquharson actioned rifle is believed to be a custom creation handmade near the turn of the century. The rifle does not wear a maker's mark. Many of these strong actioned rifles were chambered after the fact as long distance "varmint rifles" in the 1930's up to the 1960's. The original barrel which includes original target scope mounting blocks has been re-chambered in .22 Zipper improved, a wonderful vintage target and small game hunting caliber. This is an exceptionally conceived and executed one-of-a-kind classic vintage rifle that would be perfect displayed in any vintage rifle collection or in the field as a long-range target or varmint hunting rifle. This Rifle Also comes with a a Vintage 1930s J.W. Fecker Super Target Scope with its Original Wooden Box, 175 HARD TO FIND SEALED Winchester Super Speed 219 Zipper PRIMED Shells And RCBS Dies to Match. Please see photos.
