Original WWII US V-mail promotional poster, 'Be with him every mail call - V-MAIL IS PRIVATE, RELIABLE, PATRIOTIC,' artwork by Lejaren Hiller Sr. (1880-1969), printed by Recruitment Publicity Bureau United States Army, 1945, 'PX-73-RPB-1.19.45-200M.' 28 x 21 inches. Mailing folds, foxing, pinholes at margins, and minor loss to the bottom. On June 15, 1942, the Post Office Department officially inaugurated VMail service in which letters to and from members of the Armed Forces overseas were microfilmed for transporting, then printed out for the recipient. The name was derived from the 'V for Victory' symbol used during World War II.
