Peter Desmarais, St Martins Court, Leister Square. An 18K rose gold pair case, key wind cylinder pocket watch, London, C1803.
Dial: A beautiful original fully signed and numbered white enamel dial, with offset Roman numeral hour markers, black outer minute track and 1/5th second divisions, the original gold hands with original centre second hand.
Case: The 18ct rose gold pair case with polished inner and outer cases hallmarked for London 1803, the case maker stamped IW.
Movement: The gilt full plate cylinder escapement, pierced and engraved balance cock, with diamond end stone, silver regulation dial with an original dust cover fully signed and numbered. The watch has a early stop mechanism which would have been known as a doctors watch.
Peter Desmarais is recorded as working from 1794 to the early 19th Century in London. Leister Square was later to become Leicester Square. The watch is a fine example of early nineteenth century English watchmaking at its finest as this example is in such original pristine condition
