Description
Ranulph (De Bayeux) Bye (1916 - 2003) Watercolor on paper, Signed Lower Right & Titled "Benjamin Franklin Parkway" piece measures (15 x 22) and (24 x 30) inches w/ frame. Piece originally sold by Newman Galleries in what we believe to be the early 70s. Piece was later reacquired by the gallery and sold in the late 90s. Piece is in excellent condition. Ranulph de Bayeux Bye was an artist, teacher, and writer. He was born in Princeton, NJ in 1916 and made his home in Holicong, Bucks County, PA. Since 1953, Bye has painted more than 4,000 watercolors and oils, most of which are in public and private collections. His works are in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution, Temple University, Moore College of Art and Design, the Reading Public Museum and William Penn Memorial Museum in and numerous other collections.Bye is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts) and attended the Art Students League in New York City. Studying under Frank Dumond and William C. Palmer, Bye was elected to the American Watercolor Society in 1953 and became an Associate of the National Academy of Design in 1975. Bye was merited full membership in the National Academy in 1994.
